The joint conference, from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 December, brings together researchers and practitioners from around the world in the diverse fields of computer science, IT, business, education, robotics and systems engineering.
Web intelligence (WI) has been recognised as an exciting new direction for scientific research and development in exploring the roles and practical impacts of artificial intelligence and advanced information technology. WI'08 provides an international forum to present the latest WI technologies and discuss the latest ideas on the development of web-based intelligence information technology and systems.
IAT'08 will tackle the design principles and performance characteristics of various approaches in intelligent agent technology – technology that mimics human face-to-face interaction – and the development of autonomous agents and multi agent systems.
Invited speakers include:
- Professor Edmund H. Durfee (University of Michigan) will give a talk titled "Planning for Coordination and Coordination for Planning." Professor Durfee is a Fellow of the IEE and of the American Association of Artificial Intelligence.
- Professor Tsau Young Lin (San Jose State University) will discuss the web search engines and the need for improvements to the current technology.
- Professor Nigel Shadbolt (University of Southampton), a Fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Computer Society, will present on the emergence of web science.
- Professor Toru Ishida (Kyoto University) will discuss "The Language Grid" and how the accessibility and usability of online language services can be increased.
- Dr Michael Witbock (Vice President for research at Cycorp Inc. and CEO of Cycorp Europe) will discuss "Thinking Big – AI at Web Scale."
- Professor Yanchun Zhang (Victoria University) is a member of the Australian research Council's College of Experts. He will speak on "Using Web Clustering for Web Community Mining and Analysis."
- Professor Jiming Liu (Hong Kong Baptist University) will discuss the roles and potential implications of autonomy-orientated computing in the future of web intelligence and brain informatics.
- Professor Nigel Shadbolt (University of Southampton), a Fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Computer Society, will present on the emergence of web science.
The joint conference is being hosted by UTS's Centre for Quantum Computation and Intelligent Systems (QCIS) and will be held on the UTS Haymarket campus, corner Quay Street and Ultimo Road.
