The Sony Ericsson C903 Cyber-shot camera phone comes with integrated support for YouTube, Flickr and Picasa, and the slider phone also supports faster uploads at speeds up to 2Mbps, Sony Ericsson announced on Tuesday.
Mobile phone vendors are putting more effort on tighter integration with popular Internet services, and also making them easier to use on their devices, according to Sony Ericsson spokesman Mattias Holm.
The addition of integration with YouTube, Flickr and Picasa is a nice addition, but it is nothing that will set Sony Ericsson apart from the competition, according to Carolina Milanesi, research director at Gartner.
Sony Ericsson needs to add more advanced Internet support on its devices, and not just add features that other phone vendors already offer, Milanesi said.
The C903 Cyber-shot will replace the existing C902 model. It comes with a 5-megapixel camera, a LED (Light Emitting Diode) flash and a 2.4-inch display. Other camera features include Smile Shutter, which will automatically snap a picture when the subject smiles, and face detection.
Images are stored in the camera phone's 105MB of internal memory or on a Memory Stick Micro card. They can be viewed on TV via a cable, and geotagged using the phone's built-in support for AGPS (Assisted Global Positioning System).
The C903 will ship globally during the second quarter, and cost between EUR350 and EUR400, before taxes and operator subsidies.
The existing C905 will continue to be Sony Ericsson's flagship camera phone. By the end the month it will get a software upgrade that will include the Smile Shutter feature, YouTube integration and a feature that lets you see multiple SMS messages as a running conversation, according to Holm.
Sony Ericsson has also launched a new Walkman music phone, the W395. The slider format phone has built-in stereo loudspeakers and stores music on Memory Stick Micro cards. A 1GB card is included.
Other features include motion gaming, which lets you control games by moving the phone, a 2-megapixel camera and Bluetooth stereo headset support.
The W395 will ship during this quarter and cost about EUR90 before taxes and operator subsidies.
The company has more new phones on hand for the Mobile World Congress next week, said Holm, but he wouldn't give any details.
