VMware breaks through 1000 certified professionals mark

Virtualisation vendor, VMware, has achieved a new milestone, announcing it has certified 1000 professionals in the Australian market.

VMware vice-president Australia and New Zealand, Paul Harapin, said the achievement mirrored the strong uptake of virtualisation in Australia.

“It is a very pleasing result and reflective of the success we have had here in the adoption of our technology,” he said. “It is one of the most penetrated virtualised countries in the world.”

Harapin claimed Australia now has the fifth most VMware Certified Professionals (VCP) in the world, behind the US.

“If you look at the market in terms of certifications that are driving employment and are requirements to have, the VCP certification is probably the hottest,” he said.

VMware is also looking to introduce new certifications as it brings additional technologies to market in the coming months.

“If you are a partner going out there today and you can’t talk about VMware and virtualisation, I think you are marginalising yourself in terms of scope of opportunity,” Harapin said.

Financial services industry systems integrator, Jon Dawes, was the 1000th professional to be awarded the certification. In a statement, Dawes said undertaking the certification was a natural choice to advance his career prospects. The first person to achieve VCP status was Sun Microsystems’ Matthew Legg in 2004.

The VCP course involves four days of tutored training to complete. Follow-up training opportunities are also offered by the vendor
