Voda jumps on iPhone 3G S, Optus to allow tethering

Following Optus' announcement it will begin offering the iPhone 3G S from June 26, mobile carrier Vodafone will also start selling the new device the same day.

Vodafone issued a statement today saying it will launch the iPhone 3G S in Australia on June 26 and, like Optus, customers can pre-register their interest for information at a dedicated Web site: www.vodafone.com.au/iphone from Wednesday, June 10.

In other news, a spokesperson for Optus said the carrier will allow its subscribers to use the iPhone's tethering application.

The third-generation iPhone allows “tethering” where the phone is used to connect a PC to the 3G data network for mobile broadband without a dedicated access modem.

“Yes we will allow our customers to use the device as a modem, details to come,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson did not release any further information on pricing or plans, but that should be available soon.
