A technical failure has blacked-out large parts of the Telstra Bigpond network across NSW.
The problem was reportedly due to a failure in core routing equipment and affected metropolitan Bigpond business and residential Internet and Telstra cable services from 2pm today.
Telstra technical services lines were also reportedly offline during the incident.
Hostworks systems engineer Alastair Watts said the problem appeared to affect Telstra metropolitan services.
“It looks like the DSLAM infrastructure is up and is affecting cable and other services. It appears to be due to core routing problems,” Watts said.
Some ISPs have reported that Bigpond services have resumed from 3.30pm, although Telstra has yet to verify the cause of of the outage.
Regional services appear unaffected although reports on telco forum Whirlpool suggest some Next G services have been affected.
