Property search competition heats up

Domain.com.au launches new online property search tool

Domain.com.au has teamed up with the Commonwealth Bank to launch a new online property search tool to help achieve the great Australian dream — owning your own home.

Most property searches are based around criteria such as the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, location and price, however the new search, Radar, also lets users identify key points of interest in their criteria, such as transport, schools or sporting facilities.

Radar follows the trial of Google’s Australian real estate aggregation service, which lets users search for properties by price range and property criteria. Google's foray raised the ire of the media companies behind existing services such as domain.com.au and and realestate.com.au.

Domain's new search function also works for rental properties and share accommodation. House hunters have the option to prioritise property features as 'important' or 'nice to have'. For example, parking and an internal laundry may be more important than floor boards or an ensuite.

The search rates each property according to how closely it matches the ideal property features with a star rating of zero to five.

Users will also be presented with an interactive hybrid map, showing property search results with basic property information, star rating, photos, Street View, suburb profile, recent sales, quick links to the listing, directions and 'email a friend' functionality.

Users' current Domain property alerts will automatically begin to include the new information. They can, however, choose the old listing versions if they prefer.

Bank branches and ATMs of RADAR's sponsor, the Commonwealth Bank, will feature on Radar maps.

”Radar not only helps buyers find their ideal property, it also allows home buyers to calculate a home loan and repayment scenario for individual properties so buyers can truly assess whether it is in fact the 'perfect' home," said Michael Cant, executive general manager for retail products at the Commonwealth Bank.
