The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) will upgrade its financial management and HR applications before the end of 2010 and has gone to market for the supply of software and support services.
The office runs SAP R4.6 for a combined financial management information system (FMIS) and human resources management information system (HRMIS), but has decided to test the market for “suitable software that could meet its current and future requirements”.
CDPP's IT landscape consists of Windows Vista on the desktop, Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, Windows Server, SQL Server, SharePoint Portal and in-house corporate systems.
The office was established in 1983 to prosecute offences against Commonwealth law and is part of the federal Attorney General's department. Its head office is in Canberra with regional offices in every capital city. More than half of the 630 CDPP staff are lawyers.
The existing SAP system is hosted on SQL Server 2005 in Canberra, with testing and DR facilities in Melbourne. Commvault software is used for data protection.
In addition to the legal and administrative systems, including employee self service, the SharePoint portal provides access to financial management reports and can generate requests for payments.
The WAN data network consists of an encrypted dedicated external link with Verizon, through which secure “Fedlink e-mail” and general Internet and e-mail traffic is transferred.
Other IT directions include an upgrade to Windows Server 2008 by the end of 2010, an upgrade to Windows 7 and Office 2010, an upgrade to SharePoint Portal 2010 and the implementation of SOA by mid-2011. All SQL Server databases are being consolidated onto a single server.
The office will accept tender responses from suppliers up until May 18, 2010.
