Research in Motion today released a free version of its BlackBerry Express Server (BES) for IBM Domino servers, which run Lotus Notes. The Express version allows an unlimited number of users but has a subset of the mobile management tool's policies: 75 out of the full version's more than 500 policies.
Last spring, RIM released a version of BES Express for Microsoft Exchange that supported 35 policies. The InfoWord Test Center judged that the limited set of policies was enough for most businesses' management needs.

The version of BES Express released today works with Microsoft Exchange, Windows Small Business Server, Lotus Domino, and Lotus Messaging Server. Companies can deploy both the free and paid servers, such as using the paid version for high-compliance-requirement users and the free version for users with access to less valuable data or those who use personal BlackBerries for just basic activities.
