Optus pens $30m contract with Sydney Water

Under the four-year deal, Optus will supply fixed, mobile and managed services

State water authority, Sydney Water, has penned a four-year managed services contract worth almost $30 million with Optus for the delivery of a whole-of-business telecommunications service.

Under the deal, which has a provision to extend for an additional four years, Optus will supply fixed, mobile and managed services in conjunction with Dimension Data for certain aspects of the project.

It will include mobile voice and data services including email and support to about 2,100 mobile users, provide wireless local area network (LAN) connectivity and messaging services.

Fixed services will include network connectivity on the Optus Evolve network across 67 Sydney Water sites, foxed telephony, in-bound voice services to support contact centres including network interactive voice response and international call routing. The contract will also provide managed services such as the management and maintenance of both the wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) as well as onsite management and operational resources.

A spokesperson from Sydney Water would not comment on the deal which marks the move for the water utility away from a multi-supplier to a single supplier model.

Commenting on the deal, Optus Business managing director, Rob Purcell, said the contract added to the telco’s enterprise and government portfolio.

“This is a strategic partnership that leverages our Optus Evolve and mobile networks to help Sydney Water deliver operational efficiencies,” he said in a statement.

The utility is also nearing completion of a “long and costly” IT project to consolidate two asset management applications including the Work and Asset Management System (WAMS) and Facilities Maximo (FMX).
