Engineering services company Downer EDI (ASX:DOW) has contracted Hewlett-Packard to overhaul its IT infrastructure.
Downer said it had handed HP a to supply all its IT infrastructure needs for the next six years.
Chief executive officer, Grant Fenn, said Downer plans to transform what is currently a “fragmented and inefficient” IT system.
The company currently has eight data centres, five data networks, 36 operating systems and multiple email systems, but following the transformation would have a single data centre, OS and network, he said.
“This will reduce risk, improve performance [and] enable common systems and processes which support a single face to our customers,” he said.
The IT contract will be formally handed to HP after a four-month transition period.
DOW shares fell 1.79 per cent in Friday's trading to $3.830.
