Hospital data accusations wrong: NSW govt

Accusations that the NSW government is withholding hospital performance data are "simply wrong", state health minister, Jillian Skinner, says.
Shadow health minister, Andrew McDonald accused the government of delaying the release of emergency department waiting times but Skinner is blaming the former Labor government for the delay.
"I have given no instruction to the Bureau (of Health Information) to delay publication however it has alerted me to flaws in the data as previously reported by Labor," she said in a statement.
"The actual release date will be determined by the independent Bureau after data quality assurance processes are undertaken and are complete."
McDonald, however, said Skinner is responsible for the delays.
"Jillian Skinner promised many times to make hospital data more transparent, but it appears she has failed yet again with the decision to delay the publication of emergency department waiting times," he said in a statement.
"The health minister has also failed to outline just what changes she is making to the way emergency department performance is measured to justify these delays, and why she is changing these reports."
Skinner said the opposition knows the delay is due to "flaws" with the data reported under the previous government and is "merely playing tricky politics".
"Andrew McDonald has been claiming to doctors and nurses around the state that he is not political and he does not want to be the political attack dog, yet here we see a tricky political stunt," she said.
