Aussie filmmakers to premiere local film on ABC iView

While many Aussie filmmakers are still struggling to reach a local audience who are often disengaged with traditional mediums of broadcasting, one new series has used Web generated content in an attempt to overcome such challenges.

The Tunnel, a new series aired on the ABC’s iView for a month-long season, will only be available to watch through the Web TV service, with iView programmer, Penny Wright, having said that the nature of the film was a perfect fit.

“I was really intrigued by the concept of the film so I went along to have a look,” she said.

“What I saw really frightened me. This is a serious horror film. It is the perfect type of film we want to showcase as exclusive content on iView.

"We are always looking for innovative content made to be distributed online.”

In a statement from the ABC, it said the film’s producers, Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey, were frustrated by the short-sighted nature of the movie industry and chose to release information on The Tunnel via the BitTorrent file-sharing site, as well as cinema and DVD.

The ABC’s iView service began to increase in popularity last year, as managing director Mark Scott announced that the broadcaster had begun working on plans to deliver iView to audiences on the iPad.

The Tunnel will air from Sunday 14 August, and will be set in Sydney’s underground tunnel system.
