NetComm picks Sequans for TD-LTE chips

NetComm (ASX:NTC) will source its TD-LTE chipsets from Sequans, under an exclusive licensing agreement announced on Tuesday

Broadband product developer NetComm (ASX:NTC) has chosen Sequans Communications S.A. to provide the chipsets it will use in its NBN TD-LTE devices.

NetComm on Tuesday announced that it had signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Sequans for the 4G semiconductor technology.

Announcing the agreement, NetComm managing director David Stewart said it marked a milestone in the company's transition from using third-party designs to designing solutions directly into products.

The deal follows last week's announcement that NetComm has been selected to provide the devices for the LTE portion of the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Ericsson, which won the $1.1 billion deal covering this portion of the network in June, had handed NetComm the contract.

Wireless and satellite technologies will cover the roughly 7 per cent of the population not scheduled to be passed by the fibre component of the NBN.

NTC shares stayed flat on Tuesday at $0.165.
