TripView Lite
Okay, sadly this one is only for Sydney users. Which is extremely unfortunate given it is such a wonderful app. It's one of those apps that makes you really appreciate the value of smartphones. TripView gives you access to Sydney bus, ferry and train timetables, letting you work out how long a journey from point A to point B will take. You can save routes if you purchase the full version, and you can access information about service interruptions. Of course given it's Sydney public transport we're talking about, the times should be taken with a grain of salt. It's a must download if you live in the Harbour City.

Urbanspoon
Sadly Urbanspoon only offers for Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, but if you're lucky enough to live in one of those cities, you can browse nearby restaurants, read reviews and use the cool 'shake' feature that lets you randomly select a restaurant that matches certain criteria.

Fruit Ninja Free
It's made by Australia's own Halfbrick Studios, so of course it makes the list. This game is one of those gems, like Angry Birds, made possible by the smartphone revolution. If you haven't played, grab it now. Just don't start testing it while sitting in your cubicle trying to write up an article about the best Australian Android apps.
Foxtel Guide
If you have a Foxtel iQ PVR, downloading this free app is a no-brainer. It offers an electronic program guide (EPG) and the ability to let you remotely set up recordings. You can also use it as a remote control.
