OBT establishes Melbourne point of presence

Australian private Cloud services company, OBT, has increased its disaster recovery offering customers in Melbourne a second point of presence (PoP).

This is in addition to its Sydney PoP, which means the company can help businesses in either state recover data quickly.

OBT managing director, Shane Muller, said that the new presence was established due to the number of natural disasters and power outages taking place in Victoria and New South Wales.

“There are too many businesses out there that simply do not have a means to have their services continue in the event that a major city has some impact, be it communications, power or an environmental disaster,” he said.

“Businesses should first of all be worried about their staff but they need to have data records on hand. If it is not available then there are businesses that could be impacted because of reduced cash flow.”

While the company has two tier-three co-located data centres in Sydney and Melbourne, he said the company had no plans to build any more unless there was an adequate customer base established in another state.

“It would be overkill to put data centre services in other locations at this stage," he said.
