Telstra provides assistance package for Tweed Shire flood victims

Flood-affected customers advised to call Telstra on 132 203

Telstra has today released an assistance package for residents and small businesses in and surrounding the flood-affected Tweed Shire region.

The telco said its relief package varies according to the nature and scale of the damage. It offers a temporary relief for those hit by a short-term impact such as a temporary fault due to flooding. The telco is offering free call diversion from fixed-line homes or businesses to another phone service, or local and STD calls on mobile at fixed-line rates — but only while Telstra fixed-line services are unavailable or victims have been evacuated for up to three months.

Telstra pre-paid and post-paid mobile customers without a fixed-line service will be entitled to a one-off $50 credit to one mobile phone per household or business.

“We understand this is a terrible time for anyone who has been affected by these floodwaters and hopefully this package will help people as they work through this crisis,” said Sue Passmore, Telstra Country Wide Area general manager for the North Coast NSW, in a statement.

According to Passmore, Telstra’s key infrastructure was left mostly unaffected by the floods but any communications services that were impacted by floodwaters were currently being repaired by technicians.

Customers caught in the floods are advised to call Telstra on 132 203 to report a fault on their services or register for an assistance package.
