The FBI today released a background check it did on Apple's founder Steve Jobs when he was being considered for a position on the President's Export Council under George H.W. Bush in 1991.
The 191-page document, released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), includes documents related to a 1985 investigation of a bomb threat against Apple and a host of other observations, many of them not surprising -- he was driven, strong-willed -- and some not so flattering -- he could twist the truth.

Some of the interesting findings include:
• Several individuals questioned Mr. Jobs honesty stating that Mr. Jobs will twist the truth and distort reality in order to achieve his goals.
• [name redacted] stated that Mr. Jobs always conducted his business dealings in a reputable manner ... though he was sued by ACI when he left the company ... he took proprietary information and key technological personnel ... prompting a lawsuit which has since been settled.
• [name redacted] concluded the interview by stating that even though he does not consider Jobs a friend, [Jobs] possesses the qualities to presume a high-level political position. It was this person's opinion that honestly and integrity were not required qualities to hold such as position.
• Jobs is strong willed, stubborn, hardworking and driven, which they believe is why he is so successful.
• He was not a member of a communist party and did not belong to any organization that espoused the overthrow of the government.
• The FBI noted an IBM worker said that he never "witnessed any illegal drug usage or alcohol abuse by the appointee" and said Jobs "seemingly lives within his financial means and he was never witnessed any examples of an extravagant lifestyle having been practiced by Jobs."
• Jobs had a 2.65 grade point average at Homestead High School from 1968 to 1972.
