Vocus reports $21.9 million revenue, plans data centre expansion

Vocus Communications (ASX: VOC) has reported half year revenues for FY2012 of $21.9 million, up 57 per cent from the same period last year.

This profit tallies with the company’s revenue forecast which was released on 6 February. In a statement released to the ASX, Vocus reported that underlying earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), excluding foreign exchange gains and losses, was $7.6 million, up 63 per cent from $4.6 million.

Net profit after tax (NPAT) was $4 million, a 66 per cent increase from $2.4 million in 2011.

Its customer base increased to 337 while acquisitions of companies such as data centre operator PerthIX, E3 Networks' data centre business and dark fibre operator Digital River Networks contributed to the improved revenue.

In addition, Vocus announced that its Sydney data centre will be expanded with a new facility called S3 set to offer an additional 425 square metres of space. S3 is expected be online in June 2012.

The company has also secured an option for another 1000 square metres of space. According to Vocus chief executive, James Spenceley, the data centre extension will start contributing to earnings in the first half of 2013.
