Screen Australia boosts digital storytelling projects

Screen Australia’s All Media Production/Multi-platform and Digital Ignition Programs will fund 14 multi-platform digital projects, including games for touchscreen devices and an interactive documentary.

The projects include Time Tremor, which will involve seven three minute videos and a virtual interactive treasure hunt on the internet and mobile devices; the Paper Fox, an animated digital storybook for touchscreen devices; and Armello, a digital card and board game for touchscreen devices.

The dirtgirlworld Interactive Garden app will use augmented reality for children to experience nature and a series of three games based on the Figaro Pho animation series will be funded.

An interactive documentary will also follow commuters in the Granville Station project and Feng Shui Master will allow users to master a temple by following the flow of elements. The Harry Butterfly project will comprise a motion comic about a seedy crime for touchscreens.

“We’re thrilled with the volume and quality of applications we received as awareness grows of our support for content creators to capitalise on the fast-moving digital landscape,” said Ruth Harley, chief executive at Screen Australia.

A total of 89 applications were received for Screen Australia’s All Media Production/Multi-platform and Digital Ignition Programs, including 27 applications for the Multi-platform Production and 62 for Digital Ignition.

The Multi-platform Production (formerly All Media Production) invests in narrative projects in traditional and non-traditional platforms, with Screen Australia investing up to $500,000 per project.

Digital Ignition helps screen practitioners to explore new technological storytelling platforms, with Screen Australia investing up to $50,000 per development stage.
