A new study released by PR agency Burson-Marsteller has revealed that Australian PM Julia Gillard is the second best connect world leader on Twitter after European Union President Herman van Rompuy when it comes to mutual follows with her peers.
However, Gillard lags substantially behind Obama’s 17,881,080 Twitter followers, with only 254,861 accounts following her. US President Barack Obama is followed by a quarter of the accounts covered by the study, which looked at heads of heads of state and government and their institutions for 125 countries.
The Twiplomacy study revealed that two-thirds of world leaders have a Twitter presence, but only half them follow each other.
