Vodafone launches charity hackathon

Vodafone’s charity arm, the Vodafone Foundation, is hosting a 48-hour hackathon to build charity-focussed mobile apps

The App Aid event will involve 10 teams, each comprising three representatives of a particular charity and four developers. The aim is to develop a prototype app that “adds value to the charity and the community it supports” during the event, which will run from 20-22 September. Vodafone help market the winning app.

The charity of the winning team will receive a $30,000 donation; the second-place team will win $10,000 for their charity. Developers in the winning team will also receive prizes provided by Samsung, which along with Facebook is sponsoring the event.

Charities have until 22 August to apply to be part of the event; developers have until 10 September to apply. Registration details are available on Vodafone’s website.
