BlackBerry Bold 9790 available for businesses in Australia

Research in Motion (RIM) has today launched its new BlackBerry Bold 9790 smartphone for businesses in Australia.

The smartphone is currently only available from Telstra as a business/fleet device, so it can be deployed across teams, sales divisions and fleets, RIM said.

The smartphone runs on BlackBerry 7 operating system, and has a 1GHz single core processor. It has optimised HTML5 performance for gaming and video. It includes 8GB of on-board memory and an expandable memory card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage. It has a voice activated search component where users can search for information on the device or on the Web.

The smartphone also has built-in support for augmented reality and near-field communication applications.

“With the Wikitude Augmented Reality application, users can find nearby BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) contacts in real-time, read reviews on restaurants close to them or get the story behind an interesting landmark and points of interest,” RIM said in a statement.

“NFC also enables many new and exciting capabilities, including the ability to make mobile payments, pair accessories or read SmartPoster tags with a simple tap of the smartphone.”

For businesses interested in the smartphone, further information should be sought from a Telstra business manager, RIM said.
