A $6 million ICT office and laboratory has been established in Melbourne to take advantage of new technological advancements.
It has been established by Southern Cross Computer Systems, which provides end-to-end IT infrastructure and business solutions.
“This laboratory will help businesses find new ways to adopt emerging technology, store their information and access software remotely,” Gordon Rich-Phillips, technology minister in Victoria, said in a statement.
“This will enable customers to test the impact of new functions, systems and tools to improve productivity, provide greater flexibility and make information available to their increasingly mobile workforce.”
The laboratory is part of an $85 million investment in ICT by the Victorian government, which moved to fixed key weaknesses in the state's ICT strategy following a report on Victoria's ICT frameworks and policies in June this year.
The auditor-general’s report was particularly damning of the Department of Treasury and Finance's role in managing ICT frameworks and policies in secondary schools.
The Victorian government also recently announced it would give vouchers to technology companies in the state under an $8 million program.
