Zendesk opens Melbourne development centre

Zendesk opened a development centre in Melbourne. The cloud company expects the centre to create 20 jobs by September 2013.

The development centre will help Zendesk “further support our customers locally and incorporate their valuable feedback into future product development," said Zendesk Asia-Pacific managing director, Michael Hansen.

The new development centre is located on Level 2, 482 Bourke Street, Melbourne. It will start out with five people on staff, but the number is expected to quadruple in a year, Zendesk said. Software developers at the new centre will collaborate with US colleagues, it said.

The new centre builds Victoria’s “growing capabilities in the cloud," said the state’s technology minister, Gordon Rich-Phillips.

Zendesk opened its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Victoria in September 2011. Zendesk has 20,000 customers worldwide, including 1350 in Australia and 350 in New Zealand. The new development centre supports the company’s Asia-Pacific growth strategy, it said.

Zendesk plans to take advantage of Australia’s R&D tax credit, providing the company with a cash advance which means it will pay 88 per cent less than what it pays in the US, it said.
