Vodafone waives charges for helpline calls

Vodafone will make calls to two helplines free for its mobile customers, the telco announced today.

Vodafone said it will no longer count or charge for minutes on calls to 1800RESPECT and Veterans Line. Calls can be made from anywhere in Australia and be of any duration, it said.

1800RESPECT is a counselling helpline for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Veterans Line (1800 011 046) provides crisis support and counselling for all veterans and their families.

Vodafone already offers free calls to nine other helplines. They are Lifeline, Kids Helpline, State Emergency Services, Australian Red Cross, Sane, Barnados, Conservation Volunteers Australia, Oxfam and Mission Australia.

“We know that many people reach out via mobiles in times of need and by offering our customers the ability to seek the assistance they need in challenging and difficult circumstances at no fee is just a small way we can help our customers,” said Vodafone executive general manager of consumer, Edward Goff.
