The federal government has awarded over $500,000 in funding to businesses in Mandurah and Belmont in Western Australia to encourage the take-up of the National Broadband Network (NBN) in the areas.
The government is offering free training to small- to medium-sized not-for-profit businesses on how to utilise the NBN.
The $521,084 in funding is part of the federal government’s $10 million Digital Enterprise program.
“The Digital Enterprise program provides possibilities for businesses in Mandurah and Belmont to review their current business models and find new marketing opportunities, which ultimately will save them money and enhance the ways they communicate with customers and their staff,” Phil Kemp, executive director, Business Foundations Incorporated, said in a statement.
Construction of the NBN fibre network has commenced on 20,700 premises in Mandurah, with the network to be switched on from mid-2013.
The City of Mandurah and City of Belmont councils have both been recipients of other Federal Government funding for the NBN, with both selected to receive up to $375,000 to help them improve their online services this year as part of the government’s $17.1 million digital local government program.
