Amazon has launched an Instant Video app for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch, as well as a Cloud Player app for Samsung TVs.
The content distribution market is getting increasingly competitive, as vendors expand the number of devices that can access movies, books and music, and Amazon wants a piece.
The Instant Video streaming app lets users stream or download movies and TV episodes from their video library directly to their Apple device, the online retailer said Thursday.
Content available in Amazon's Instant Video store includes movies like "The Dark Knight Rises," "Brave" and "The Amazing Spiderman," as well as the latest episodes from TV series like "The Walking Dead," "Sons of Anarchy" and "The Vampire Diaries," according to Amazon.
The app also makes more than 30,000 titles from Amazon's Prime Instant Video available to members, including TV shows like "American Horror Story," "Downton Abbey" and "Fringe," as well as movies such as "Hugo," "Thor" and "Goodfellas."
There is already an Instant Video app for Apple's iPads.
But Amazon's content push isn't just about movies and TV shows. On Thursday, Amazon also announced Cloud Player apps for Samsung TVs from 2012 in the U.S and Roku streaming players.
The Cloud Player allows users to access music they store in Amazon's cloud.
The app for Samsung TVs lets users browse, search or playback music from their libraries directly on their TV sets, and the app is available on Samsung's Smart Hub, according to Amazon. While Roku users can download the Amazon Cloud Player channel from the Featured or Music category in the Channel Store, it said.
Cloud Players are already for Amazon's Kindle Fire tablets, Macs, PCs, Sonos Music Players, Android-based devices as well as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
