Google Nexus 4 returns to Australia via Harvey Norman

The Google Nexus 4 sold out 20 minutes after launch in Australia.

Harvey Norman will sell the Google Nexus 4 smartphone starting 1 February.

The LG-manufactured phone, which sold out less than 20 minutes after its launch on the Google Play store, will be sold exclusively at Harvey Norman.

Harvey Norman will only sell the 16GB version of the Nexus 4. An 8GB version was available through Google.

The phone can be purchased outright for $496. Google had sold the 16GB version for $399 and the 8GB for $349. Harvey Norman customers can get the phone for less money upfront if they buy an Optus plan.

The Nexus 4 is based on the LG Optimus G and includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM and the latest Android OS, Jelly Bean 4.2. The phone does not have 4G, but does provide “3G+” speeds through an HSPA+ chip.

“The response in Australia has been overwhelmingly positive on Google Play already, and we know our Harvey Norman partnership will create even greater demand,” said Lambro Skropidis, a general manager at LG Australia.
