Optus has issued a statement indicating that the telco's mobile network is operational in "major population centres" in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
However, a Twitter post made after the statement was issued said that there were a limited number of mobile outages across Central and South East Queensland regions "due to power and transmission failures".
Optus yesterday reported patchy mobile coverage in central and south east Queensland, including in Mount Isa, Longreach, Emerald, Dalby, Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach, in the wake of widespread flooding.
According to Optus, mobile services in Bundaberg, Maryborough and Rockhampton are currently operating as normal, albeit under generator power. Optus mobile coverage in the northern NSW towns of Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Port Macquarie is currently unaffected. Optus said mobile and fixed broadband services are available in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay, Gladstone, Gympie and the Sunshine Coast.
The telco announced via Twitter late last night that there were disruptions for Optus fixed voice and broadband customers in Brisbane and Ipswich.
Over the weekend Telstra services were progressively being restored across Central and Northern Queensland after fibre was damaged at Colosseum. A team of Telstra technicians used helicopter to reach the cable in order to carry out repairs. Technicians also carried out repairs on a Telstra cable north of Harlin.
A Telstra statement issued at 7.30am Sydney time read: "While the outages resulting from the cable-cut have now been rectified, some services continue to be affected by localised power outages caused by storms. These disruptions will be fixed as power is restored, or we are able to arrange emergency power."
