HP has announced Australian pricing for its new Slate 7 Android tablet.
The company has confirmed the Slate 7 will sell for $199 when it becomes available in Australia in April. No exact release date has been revealed.
The $199 asking price undercuts Google's popular Nexus 7 tablet, which starts at $249.
Like the Nexus 7, the HP Slate 7 is a 7in Android tablet targeted squarely at consumers. It was announced earlier this week at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade show in Barcelona, Spain,
The Slate 7 marks HP's return to the market after a long hiatus and the ill-fated, webOS-based TouchPad. HP sensationally abandoned that product less than a week after it launched in Australia back in 2011.
The HP Slate 7 is powered by an 1.6GHz ARM dual-core processor, has 1GB of RAM and comes with 8GB of internal memory.
Other features include a microSD card for memory expansion, along with a front-facing VGA camera for video calls and a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera for photos and videos.
The HP Slate 7 will initially ship with an almost stock, vanilla version of Google's Android 4.1 'Jelly Bean' OS.
