NAB Traveller card can be loaded with 10 currencies simultaneously

Customers can load up to 10 foreign currencies onto the card using Internet or mobile banking

National Australia Bank (NAB) has upgraded its Traveller card so that customers can load up to 10 currencies at one time onto the card using Internet/mobile banking while they are in Australia or overseas.

The 10 currencies are:

  • Australian dollar
  • Thai Baht
  • Euro
  • United States dollar
  • Great Britain pound
  • New Zealand dollar
  • Canadian dollar
  • Japanese Yen
  • Singapore dollar
  • Hong Kong dollar
NAB customers can load funds in real-time, view balances and transaction history on their smartphone or tablet while travelling.

NAB's digital general manager, Todd Copeland, said that the bank is waiving the initial currency load fee of 1 per cent so customers can set up their Traveller card for free.

“Customers can cash out their cards online and keep the card to use again in the future. Approximately 60 per cent of our customers access their banking via a smartphone or tablet, so it was important to provide a mobile solution for customers who are travelling,” he said in a statement.

According to Copeland, the improvements mean that travellers no longer need to use the BPAY payment service to reload the card while overseas.

A NAB spokesperson told Computerworld Australia that its UBank subsidiary is also exploring a “digital travel offering” for UBank customers. No roll-out date for the travel card has been confirmed.
