eWay makes play for Asia

Aussie e-commerce provider launches in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia

Australian e-commerce firm eWAY has launched its merchant platform into Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

The platform integrates with more than 350 e-commerce shopping cart portals and allows e-commerce retailers to accept payments from customers quicker. Payments are made more secure through the use of Symantec’s SSL encryption.

The company’s platform is also available in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Australian travel firm Webjet Exclusives has selected eWAY as the payments partner for its Singapore expansion.

According to eWAY founder and CEO Matt Bullock, the company has processed 110 million transactions worth A$15 billion for more than 16,000 businesses since it began in 1998.

“E-commerce in Asia is growing at a phenomenal rate, and merchants need better options. Everyone is looking for convenience, self-service or a person to help them through the process for online commerce, depending on their needs. eWAY provides all these options for merchants,” he said in a statement.

In August 2013, MasterCard announced deals with 16 Australian payment providers, including eWAY, to provide MasterPass as a digital payment option to their merchant and enterprise customers.

For online payments, the digital wallet from MasterCard allows users to pay from a list of pre-stored cards and shipping addresses stored in the digital wallet. In the store, merchants supporting MasterPass will be able to accept mobile contactless payments using near field communication (NFC) technology or QR code
