Payment Adviser finds value in desktop-as-a-service

Electronic payment firm outsources desktop, infrastructure to Oriel Technologies

Australian electronic payment business, Payment Adviser, has transitioned to a hosted virtual desktop as part of its outsourced business model.

The desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) solution means the company can host a Windows desktop environment in the cloud for approximately $42 a month. Payment Adviser can provision, install and customise individual applications and desktops any time.

“One of the benefits of DaaS is that we can access a secure environment on any device that we want,” said Payment Adviser CEO Robin Beauchamp.

A secure environment is essential because the company is managing customer transactions totalling $250 million every month.

According to Beauchamp, another benefit has been the cost savings.

“By outsourcing our desktop strategy to Oriel Technologies, we have significantly reduced our capital costs because we no longer need to own and house IT infrastructure,” he said.

Another reason for using DaaS is the company’s outsourced business model. For example, Oriel Technologies is also providing infrastructure as a service (IaaS) in the cloud. It is managing areas such as software development.

In addition, the vendor is about to provide Payment Adviser with call centre support from centres in Australia.

“They will re-direct customer enquiries to the relevant party to address them, whether it’s a customer support issue or a technical issue,” said Beauchamp.
