Westpac signs up to Aus Post Digital Mailbox

Bank customers can receive statements via the service

Westpac customers will be able to receive bank statements and announcements via Australia Post’s MyPost Digital Mailbox from today.

The service is free for Australian citizens and allows people to receive statements via any device that has an Internet connection. Consumers can also store documents in a private cloud service hosted in Australia.

According to Westpac, it is the first bank to partner with Australia Post.

Australia Post CEO and managing director, Ahmed Fahour, said the bank has affirmed its support for the MyPost platform as a “trusted communications” solution.

“Trusted online services require digital mailbox solutions not solved by emails, as evidenced by the many banks that will not distribute bank statements and accounts by email,” he said in a statement.

According to Australia Post, customer registrations for the MyPost Digital Mailbox service were up 86 per cent in the past eight months. However, an Australia Post spokesperson told Computerworld Australia it could not reveal customer numbers as it was “operating in a competitive environment.”

So far, 45 organisations – including Telstra, AMP, David Jones and the Federal Government’s MyGov – have signed up to the service.
