Tablet sales in Australia dropped by a fifth last year, according to a new study released by Telsyte.
The Australian Media Tablet Market Study 2015, released by the analyst firm today, found that at the end of last year some 13 million Australians had access to a tablet.
Apple's range of iPads outsold the competition last year, Telsyte said.
Part of the decline in sales was cyclical and related to market saturation, Telsyte said, with tablet sales expected to pick up in 2015.
The analyst firm said there had also been growing interest in wearables, such as fitness bands and smartwatches.
Existing tablet owners were not motivated to upgrade in 2014, and demand for the new iPhone 6, large-screen Android smartphones and wearables cut into the market.
Telsyte is predicting increased sales in 2015 on the back of people seeking to upgrade their notebooks to hybrid devices.
"Telsyte believes there will be strong demand of convertibles or 2-in-1 devices, as mainstream business and consumer users look to update to Windows 10 later this year," the analyst firm's managing director, Foad Fadaghi, said in a statement.
