Assistant Director, Sustainable Development

This is a unique opportunity to work for a thriving non-government not-for-profit organisation.
You would be required to assist the Director and membership in the area of environmental, economic and social policy and programs impacting on the sector. This offers you the opportunity to be mentored by the Director and obtain career progression. Your experience and knowledge would be utilised in addressing policy issues regarding energy, water and waste, social issues such as OH&S, fair trade and ethical sourcing.
Your duties would include:
- Respond to key policy and strategy considerations relating to sustainability
- Assist in the provision of input, analysis and development of policy and its implementation relating to sustainability including the key issues of water, waste and energy (including social and economic issues).
- Provision of information, research and analysis to the Director / members on strategic
policy formulation and implementation relating to industry sustainability.
- Prepare agenda and briefing papers for the relevant Committees and the Board on
key issues of sustainability and subsequently, in the actioning of decisions.
- Liaise and build professional relationships with appropriate personnel within member companies.
- Consult and communicate with relevant stakeholders such as government and other
To be considered for this position you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management,
economics or related disciplines.
- A knowledge, or capacity to develop knowledge, of economics and environmental
management.
- A knowledge, or capacity to develop knowledge, of broader sustainability policy and
management matters affecting the food, grocery and beverage industry.
- Initiative, energy, drive, determination and a track record in self-motivated
achievements.
- Demonstrated capability in research, analysis and interpretation coupled with good
communication skills, particularly writing.
- Interpersonal skills consistent with working in a tight knit, highly motivated and
dedicated team constantly interacting.
- A capacity to work under pressure and to reconcile competing demands.
- Operational flexibility.
- Networking capability - ability to build relationships with member company
representatives and other stakeholders such as government to establish confidence,
credibility and trust.
