Technical Specialist - Optus

The overall role of the holder of this position is to provide expert technical support and perform tasks for all relevant parties to ensure that Optus Consumer products and platforms are designed, integrated , deployed, operated, maintained as required and specified by Optus business and technical specifications and also by Optus architecture and strategy. 
The role will also take technical responsibility for the testing, integration and deploying of new products and technologies over the mobile network to a high standard.

Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to

• Provide expert technical support to Optus groups and vendor staff at all levels in regards to three or more of the following: project management, ongoing faults, long term faults, issues, maintenance, network architecture, system overview, projects, deployments, integration, planning, capacity forecasting and financial forecasting, related with MCSE supported platforms/products or its functions.


• Ensure by design, build and operations that systems/platforms are designed, developed, operated and maintained to Optus’ business & technical specifications and are within the requirements designated by the department’s architecture group for the product


• Escalation of major design, network or application issues to the appropriate technical support areas and management with the knowledge of possible resolution actions


• Review change requests and recommend action where required


• Produce recommendation, development and implementation of standards and procedures to be used within the department and Optus


• This role should be able to demonstrate experience in a number of the following areas: 2,2.5 and 3G Mobile Network Technologies, SS7 Signalling,  Mobile Data, Voice over IP, IP routing, OSS (Network management),  Messaging platforms (SMSC, Voice Mail, MMSC), Prepaid IN Networks,  IT systems and ATM networks

The major challenges of this role will be keeping up with the constant changes in products and technology and to facilitate transfer of information to staff to ensure all staff have the required level of competency to handle daily tasks performed by the group
To meet this challenge and be effective in this role you will be able to demonstrate:
Key skills/experience required:

• Degree in Engineering, Science or Telecommunications or Equivalent experience in Telecommunications/Electrical Engineering industry


• A minimum of seven years experience in telecommunications. Both depth and breadth of technical experience is required


• Experience in creating and delivering presentations to senior management and externally as requiredExcellent Communications Skills with the ability to communicate technical details


• Experience in service assurance for networks and customers


• Significant post qualification experience in the supervision of real time operation in the telecommunications environment  

Experience in one or more of the following products:

• 2G and higher Mobile Network Technologies and its features,


• TDM voice,


• Voice over IP,


• SDH transmission,


• DSL technology,


• IP routing,


• OSS (Network management),


• Wireless Local Loop,


• High speed data over the HFC Network,


• Digital or Analogue Television,


• Satellite and ATM networks
