The Desktop Administrator is a member of an operations team reporting to the Systems Coordinator.

The Operations Team provides a broad base of expert skills that support and maintain Council’s ICT Systems and Users.

The Desktop Administrator will provide quality customer service and second tier support whilst assisting in the operation and maintenance of the Council’s desktop computer systems.

- Assist in the evaluation, procurement, installation, commissioning, on-going maintenance and upgrading of computer hardware, peripherals, applications and systems software under general direction of the Systems Coordinator.
- Provide instruction, assistance and support to clients in the use of Personal Computers and application software in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining a detailed asset register of all Knowledge Management hardware, application software and peripheral equipment.
- Review and periodically report on the performance of existing hardware, local and wide area networks, software applications relating to the support of Council’s Desktop Systems. Provide recommendations to the Systems Coordinator on relevant upgrades.
- Assist with formulation, implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery plan to ensure the operation of Council’s core computer systems.
- Assist the Systems Coordinator in a quality assurance role to ensure operational procedures and documentation is available, acceptable and tested for all operational and stand-by systems.
- Make recommendations to the Systems Coordinator in relation to budgetary requirements for future expenditure to maintain and develop the current and future operation of Council’s Desktop Systems.
- Write scripts to automate the installation of software packages and enable deployment within Microsoft SMS.
- Maintain an understanding of the Council’s existing Business Management System (BMS) suite of software to assist with problem solving.
- Assist in the provision of the Knowledge Management Service Desk for the Council as directed by the Systems Coordinator.
- Commitment to the principles and philosophy of customer service.
- Exercise responsibility for Workplace Heath and Safety, Environmental Protection, EEO, Anti-discrimination and privacy obligation.
- Other duties as required commensurate with this classification level and other duties that are reasonably directed.
