Palo Alto Networks has bet everything on being a next-generation firewall. Without the next-generation hook, Palo Alto has little chance at breaking into the established world of firewalls, and they've done a good job at defining the category on their own terms.

Juniper Networks says that Palo Alto Networks is infringing on its next-generation firewall technology, which was invented by Palo Alto's founders but for which Juniper holds the patents.

A few years ago, we had the local electric company do a home energy audit. Our 19th-century house was hard to heat, and as we suspected, the inspector found we didn't have enough insulation.
