If you've used a Windows 7 laptop with a "multitouch" touchpad, you've likely been a little disappointed to see that it offers only a few gestures: pinch to zoom, twist to rotate, two-finger scrolling, maybe three-finger swiping. The functionality is handy, but it's a long way from having a touchpad that behaves like a little multitouch touchscreen.

Apple unveiled the latest generation of its iPod Touch last week, and the new device already is impressing reviewers with its new front- and rear-facing cameras, super-slim design, and iPhone-like Retina display. The folks over at iFixit, however, aren't content with simply reading reviews: they've already pulled, poked, and prodded the new iPod Touch to get a look at its insides. Here's a look at what they found when they managed to disassemble Apple's new device.

Apple's multi-touch assault on the desktop continues with the US$69 (AUD$99) Magic Trackpad, a jumbo touch panel that allows desktop Mac users to do away with their mouses and act like they're using MacBook Pros. A German retailer has prematurely posted (and very quickly taken down) details and product shots of the upcoming Microsoft Arc Touch mouse. The Microsoft peripheral is innovative more in its form than its function, but along with the Apple Magic Trackpad it hints at a future where the mouse may no longer have a role.
