As business operations become more complex, the demand for change in IT increases accordingly, as do the associated risks that must be mitigated. Today’s IT professionals are asked to manage more information and deliver it to their users, with ever-increasing quality of service, in a timely manner. And in today’s economic climate, IT must also reduce budgets and derive greater value out of existing investments. Read more.
This paper examines two case studies where organisations were recently faced with application upgrades.
In both cases the organisations needed to upgrade aging systems to accommodate increased workloads
and to take advantage of functional enhancements in the latest releases of packaged applications. Both organisations found that by migrating they could cut their costs by more than half compared to upgrading to newer versions of UNIX/RISC platforms.
Companies originally chose AIX platforms because of the strength of IBM software and the
robust platform on which it could run, and that choice served them well. However, in today’s
fast-changing business environment, you need a flexible, cost-effective IT infrastructure that
is supported on a wide range of servers to handle any workload, from small to large to virtualised
cloud deployments. The same advantages, in terms of reliability, security, and performance is available today on a breadth of hardware platforms.
Datacenters are an aggregate of very heterogeneous elements interacting with each
other and incurring a complex chain of dependencies, particularly around the point of
contact between hardware and software. Against this backdrop, IDC is observing a
great push from suppliers and end users alike toward a consumption model based on
pre-integrated blocks of optimized hardware and software that IT departments need
only to fine-tune, as opposed to build out of a collection of different components. Read on.
This whitepaper will help to clarify exactly what the different models of Cloud Computing are, how the different models should be used, and when to embrace these models.
Unified Messaging (UM) may not
be the most fashionable topic at
the moment – yet the productivity
gains it can provide remain
undiminished. Organisations
thinking about implementing
Unified Communications (UC)
need to think carefully about
how UM fits into their overall
communications plan, as well as
how they will integrate and rollout
new services.
Business Case Considerations for Improving Enterprise Performance. As you consider the
opportunities to improve speed and agility across your enterprise, identify operations and processes where faster and better-informed decision-making can make a tangible difference in the performance of the business. As a point of reference, we have seen enterprises achieve significant gains in these areas not only with workflows and processes that involve mobile or virtual workers, but also with fixed-location employees as well. In the following sections, we will examine a number of these areas, and illustrate the business benefits using the experiences of real enterprises that have incorporated collaboration into their mainstream business processes and workflows.
