Govt quenches skills drought with undergrads

ICT cadetship program lauched.

An ICT recruitment program has been launched to coax university students into government departments suffering from the IT skills drought.

The program, lead by the Department of Finance and Deregulation, will start next year and offer training in government IT departments for second and third year IT undergraduate students.

The program sits between existing IT recruitment programs which include whole-of-government ICT apprenticeships and agency graduate programs.

Students transferring into IT will be able to apply for the program if they have a minimum of one IT major subject.

The course combines a weekly schedule of study with work placement in the public service.

Applications for the 2009 intake open between September 1 and October 3 this year.
