Milliman Sydney To Save $250,000 on Travel Costs with TANDBERG Telepresence

Video-conferencing technology underpins establishment of regional headquarters for risk management business

SYDNEY, 20 October 2009 — TANDBERG (OSLO: TAA.OL), a leading global provider of telepresence, high-definition video-conferencing and mobile video solutions, today announced that the Sydney office of global actuarial and consulting firm, Milliman, has deployed TANDBERG Telepresence.

TANDBERG Telepresence is helping underpin Milliman’s growth in Australia by providing local clients with access to its international team.

The TANDBERG Telepresence suite in Sydney is connected to an identical system in Milliman’s Chicago office, with a third installation scheduled later this year to support the firm’s team in London. The identical room set up gives all participants the same meeting experience as being in the one room together.

By replacing face-to-face meetings in the US and UK with immersive telepresence conferences, Milliman’s Sydney team expects to save $250,000 in flight and travel costs over the next 12 months.

Milliman, which has over 2,100 employees worldwide, established the Sydney office in early 2007 to service a blue-chip client base that includes insurance providers, superannuation funds, investment companies and wealth management businesses.

“Telepresence allows our Australian clients to meet and collaborate directly over video with key members of our financial risk management team based in Chicago,” said Wade Matterson, Practice Leader, Milliman’s Sydney office.

“As well as reinforcing our credibility in the Australian market, we can give local financial services executives and managers direct access to international experience, ideas and approaches. For our business, which is based on thought leadership, the ability to present an integrated global team provides a real competitive edge.”

The ability of Milliman’s Sydney and Chicago teams to deliver presentations using Telepresence has enhanced the effectiveness of client and internal meetings. The visual interaction between meeting participants has eliminated the uncertainty that can plague teleconferences and enabled the firm to forge stronger relationships with clients.

“The system is very simple to use and the immersive quality of the TANDBERG Telepresence suite also plays a part in ensuring people are instantly engaged in the meeting and comfortable with the technology,” said Matterson. “It is also standards-compliant and easily upgradeable so we can expect to take advantage of new features as they are added by TANDBERG and our business grows.”

TANDBERG Telepresence works naturally with other video-conferencing products, which wasn’t clear in offerings from other vendors. This allows the Milliman Sydney team members to easily schedule telepresence or traditional style video-conference meetings with clients or other Milliman offices across the region. In addition, it enables the Sydney office to limit travel expenses incurred in providing risk management services to clients.

Milliman Sydney has now established TANDBERG Telepresence as a default standard for internal meetings, with other options explored only when a team member cannot be physically present in a videoconference-enabled location.
