CA Technologies localises on-demand project management

Fujitsu data centres used to deploy local Cloud service

In the latest of a spate of local Cloud moves, CA Technologies will deploy its project management service in Australia and New Zealand, storing data locally through Fujitsu.

CA will deploy the Clarity PPM On Demand service on two of Fujitsu’s Australian Tier III data centres, providing the Cloud offering outside of the US and Europe for the first time. The local move will likely eliminate concerns over data sovereignty when using data centres hosted overseas.

CA Technologies ANZ vice president, Brenton Smith, said the company wanted local customers to have access to the same products as those in the US and Europe. The US version of the on-demand service is currently hosted by DataPipe in New Jersey and California, while an Equinix data centre in Munich, Germany provides European coverage.

The infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) will be deployed as an out-of-the-box configuration with in-built data and system replication across the data centres.

CA is likely to also use the data centres to trial software to some clients.

Fujitsu itself purchases and deploys the CA software for project management.

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand chief executive, Rod Vawdrey, said the investment in the platform, which includes the servers, storage, internet provision, backup and management of the infrastructure, along with data replication and retrieval, would give CA “complete security”.

The CA contract comes as another win for the data centre provider which last year announced it, along with HP, would host a local version of Microsoft's Windows Azure Platform Appliance.

Though often relegated to Singapore or south-east Asian business centres for Cloud services, vendors have begun to focus more heavily on Australian bases, with both HP and Cisco-EMC venture VCE looking to build business in the market.
