Melbourne-based data centre operator NextDC (ASX:NXT) has created two new management roles, chief operations officer and general manager of sales, as the company expands in the Australian market.
Simon Cooper has been appointed as the chief operations officer, while Nick Hillier was hired as general manager of sales. Both men start at the company in October 2011. Cooper was previously at Tata Communications while Hiller was Dell Australia's director of modular data centre and multi-level security.
At NextDC, Cooper will be responsible for all of the company's technical capabilities, including data centre development, facilities management, IT, security and technical operation functions. Hiller will manage sales and product development and was poised to head up the company's national sales team.

Chief executive officer, Bevan Slattery, said in a statement that the new hires would play a "critical role" in developing and growing the company's data centre business.
"Both executives bring Australian and international experience gained within successful companies."
In August, the company reported a net loss of $1.67 million, which it expected due to the start-up nature of the business, according to a full-year results statement released to the ASX.
The company posted its first-year results for the period May 2010 to 30 June 2011, with sales of $2 million and net cash outflow from operating activities of $0.75 million.
