Heineken has released a mobile app titled “Your Heineken Passport” in time for the Rugby World Cup.
The app features a bar finder; the feature uses GPS to locate fans at official RWC bars, provides information on the bar and directions on how to get there.
The app also enables users to find fellow fans, provides up-to-the-minute RWC information, and even contains taxi information — such as the nearest taxi stand and contact details for taxi services — to help fans get home safely.
Other features include a trivia game, which asks fans RWC questions related to a game being played at the time, and an information portal to find match schedules and pool results.
With regular use of the app, users go into the running to win two tickets to the RWC 2011 final with full Heineken hospitality.
The app’s creator, Brandknew developer Marco Marinkovich, said the app utilises a caching system to minimise data usage on smartphones while users are romaning.
"It's been designed to offer a responsive experience on all major platforms," he said.
The app is free and available on Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7.
The RWC kicks off on 9 September in Auckland, New Zealand, with the All Blacks versus Tonga.
