Sony Android Tablet S hits Australia

Android-based Sony Tablet 'S' is PlayStation-certified

Sony's 9.4-inch, Android-based tablet will be available in Australia from tomorrow.

Like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Android smartphone, the Sony Tablet 'S' — available in 16GB and 32GB models — is PlayStation-certified, offering access to games through the PlayStation Store.

Both models offer Wi-Fi connectivity but lack support for 3G access. The tablet uses NVIDIA's dual-core, 1GHz Tegra 2 chip, which uses the ARM Cortex A9 CPU and ULP GeForce graphics processor. The Tegra 2 is also found in ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, Dell's Streak 7 Android tablet, the Motorola Xoom and Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The tablet runs version 3.2 of Google's Android platform.

The Sony Tablet 'S' SGPT111 has 16GB of internal storage and retails for $579, while the 32GB SGPT112 will sell for $689.
