South Morang switches on to the NBN

Residents and businesses in South Morang, Victoria, will be able to connect to the NBN.

The National Broadband Network (NBN) has been switched on at South Morang in Victoria, covering 2300 premises.

A total of 9700 premises will eventually be passed by the NBN in South Morang, Mill Park and Bundoora, with construction already commenced on 48,000 premises in Victoria. Construction on 690,000 premises is expected to start or be completed in Victoria by mid-2015.

South Morang joins several other areas around Australia which have NBN-ready connections, with the network also recently switched on in Geraldton in Western Australian.

Around 6000 premises will be connected to the NBN every working day in 2016, when construction of the network is expected to reach a peak.

NBN Co has set the target for construction to have commenced or been completed for around 758,000 premises by 31 December, 2012.
