Paycorp has deployed a payment card industry data security standard (PCI DSS) within Equinix’s three international business exchange (IBX) data centres in Sydney.
The PCI DSS is a phone and call centre payment service that masks card data. It ensures that private information is kept secure, even if the call is recorded. The user can continue to speak with a call centre agent while payment card data is entered.
According to Equinix, telecommunications companies will be able to offer the PCI DSS service to their customers from its carrier-neutral IBX data centres.

Paycorp managing director John Caliguri said the issue with security and compliance is that traditionally only larger companies can afford data integrity.
“Smaller companies and charitable organisations often struggle to successfully secure transaction data to the highest standards,” he said in a statement.
According to Caliguri, telcos can offer its PCI DSS-compliant payment services to their customers via their existing telephone numbers for a few cents per transaction.
