Australia Post partners with startup GiveEasy

Startup enables donations to charity using mobile phones

Australia Post has announced a two-year agreement with Sydney mobile donations startup GiveEasy.

The partnership, which includes an undisclosed amount of funding for GiveEasy, has been made under Australia Post’s community program, Our Neighbourhood. The program aims to promote inclusion in communities across Australia through sponsorships, investments and projects.

GiveEasy, profiled by Techworld Australia earlier this year, has developed mobile apps for Apple and Android. Users enter credit card details into the app once and can send donations to as many charities as they like. After making a donation, users can announce it to their friends using the app’s social media sharing capabilities.

GiveEasy has also recently launched an SMS-based donation platform. Australia Post SecurePay is the payment gateway for both the apps and the SMS platform.

“Australians have often given to their favourite charities through direct mail in our post offices, and now with GiveEasy we are helping them to give via their smartphones in a convenient way,” Australia Post general manager of community relations, Andrea Pearman, said in a statement.

“We believe that making giving more accessible to more Australians will only lead to more money getting to the charities and communities that need it most.”

GiveEasy is a social enterprise, which means it can make a profit but can’t distribute it to shareholders. For that reason, it shares some of the same funding challenges as a not-for-profit.

Jeremy Tobias, GiveEasy head of business development, said the partnership with Australia Post will help the one-year-old startup scale the business.

“We look forward to conducting joint initiatives with Australia Post to further assist the not-for-profit sector in fundraising and other activities over the coming months and years," he said.
